Ribchev (10-3-1, 3 KOs) won the UBO title at the
same venue this past February when he unanimously
outscored Latvian Jurijs Boreiko over then heated
rounds. This will be the first time that a
professional boxer from outside continental Europe
fights in Rousse, and the fight is creating a lot
of excitement in the area.
Silva Diaz (37-21-4, 20 KOs) is a former Uruguayan
and WBA Fedelatin Champion, and twice fought for
world titles. In 2004 he drew with Chad Bennet in
Australia for the WBF Welterweight title, and in
2007 he lost on points to Hamza Issa in Cameroon
for that same crown.
The 34-year-old Uruguayan has shared a ring with
former or future world champions such as Lovemore
Ndou (IBF), Shannan Taylor (WBF), Attila Kovacs
(IBO), and Sebastian Zbik (WBC). In his last bout
he lost a ten round decision to former WBC World
Light Middleweight Champion Carlos Manuel Baldomir
in Argentina.
Although Ribchev’s level of experiences doesn’t
compare to that of Silva Diaz, he is not exactly a
rookie himself. Ribchev won the Bulgarian national
title in 2010, and went eight hard rounds with
former amateur World Champion Jack Culcay later
that year. |
