Ribchev, fighting in front of a loud home-crowd at
the Zala Dunav, was expected to get a tough
challenge from Boreiko, a former WBC and EBA
title-challenger, but the sharp Bulgarian seemed
to always be one step ahead of the visitor.
Boreiko, always dangerous and determined, had some
success along the way, but Ribchev did well to
keep his cool and use his superior boxing skills
to win the rounds.
It was an entertaining fight, and the fans
thoroughly enjoyed the success of their hero. Even
though Ribchev was superior in skills and it
looked as if he had things under control, the
possibility of Boreiko landing one of his bombs
was always there, and it made for some dramatic
moments.
The durable Latvian, who only lost a majority
decision to current IBF World Champion Jan Zavek
back in 2004 and has several upset victories on
his resume, never stopped trying, despite
continuously being outmaneuvered by Ribchev.
After ten rounds, Judges Evtim Lefterov, Daniel
Krumov and Emil Todorov scored the bout 100-90,
100-90 and 98-92, but a couple of close rounds
along the way could easily have gone to Boreiko.
Referee
was Venciclav Nikolov. |
