December 13, 2010 / BY UBO PRESS OFFICER

Dhafir “No Fear” Smith scored the biggest victory of his professional career on Saturday, December 11, when he won a unanimous decision over former World Champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy in front of a near capacity crowd at Jannus Live in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Smith is now the Universal Boxing Organization™ International Super Middleweight Champion.

The fight was launched as the homecoming of Lacy, who was boxing for the first time as a professional in his hometown, but the former Olympian never seemed like his old self and Smith quickly took control and continuously beat Lacy to the punch.

While Lacy didn’t utilize his jab, Smith had lots of success with his, and time and time again caught Lacy, who’s defense was also below normal standard. When Lacy tried to be more aggressive, Smith was very successful in avoiding punches with good movement and by tying Lacy up.

To the surprise of most observers, Smith also seemed to be the stronger guy on the inside, as he constantly pushed Lacy backwards.

At the end of twelve rounds the scores were 118-110, 117-111, 116-112, all in favor of Dhafir Smith, who put on an impressive performance and improved his record to 24-19-7 (4). Lacy dropped to 25-4 (17), and it remains to be seen if he will choose to retire or give the sport one more chance.

Lacy and his Left Hook Promotions co-promoted the fight with Fightnight Promotions, and perhaps he will decide to concentrate on promoting other boxers in the future. Whatever he decides, the Universal Boxing Organization™ wishes him the best of luck. Lacy can forever be proud of what he accomplished as a boxer!

Congratulations to Dhafir Smith! A tough and deserving champion who upset the odds and did what few thought he could do. Well done!
