| It has been confirmed that Uruguayan Cecilia Comunales, 6-1, 4 KOs, (right on photo) will fight Halana Dos Santos, 13-3, 8 KOs, from Brazil (left on photo) for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Female World Lightweight title on January 9 2011 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The bout will be promoted by Sergio Marquez Promociones. Born in Paysandu, Uruguay, 21-year-old Comunales made her professional debut on January 10 2009, so it will be almost exactly two years after her first paid bout that she fights for her first world championship. |

Her only defeat came this past February when she dropped a decision to unbeaten Paraguayan Victoriana Britez on an off-night, and she is scheduled to box a tune-up on November 13 to build her confidence and get ready for Dos Santos. Dos Santos, while one year younger than Comunales has a considerable advantage in experience. Not only does she have two times as many professional fights, she has also twice fought for World championships. In 2008 she lost a decision in Italy against Laura Tavecchio in a WBA lightweight bout, and in 2009 she went to Peru where she was stopped in seven by WBA Super Featherweight champion Kina Malpartida. Last time out, Dos Santos beat fellow Brazilian Railda Borges by second round knockout, and she will travel to Uruguay full of confidence. Comunales may have the crowd on her side, but Dos Santos has tried boxing under similar circumstances before, and all things considered this fight appears to be a real toss-up. |
