November 1, 2010 / BY UBO PRESS OFFICER

Undefeated 21-year-old Bolivian Franklin Mamani impressively defeated Idiozan Matos of Brasil on Friday October 29 to win the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Latino Welterweight title at the Coliseo Julio Borelli Viteritto in La Paz, Bolivia.

Mamani (7-0-1, 6 KOs) took advantage of his superior speed and pressured Matos from the start. With precise and hard combinations, the home boxer displayed his magnificent skills and the visitor never really found his rhythm in the first round. Round two saw Mamani take even more control of the proceedings, and, although still game, Matos looked disillusioned.

In the third Mamani’s power made the big difference, and quickly scored the first knockdown. The end came at one minute and forty-eight seconds of the round, when the referee had seen enough after Matos had been floored three times.

The Brazilian, now 13-11 (7), finished on his feet, but seemed to have very little left and the stoppage came at the right time.

The bout, only the fourth title fight in Bolivia in more than ten years with something bigger than a Bolivian title at stake, was promoted by Walter Mamani.
