Matamba Postolo won the vacant UBO All-Africa Heavyweight title Saturday night in Lubumbashi, D.R.C., when he scored a seventh round technical knockout of Thomas Moutuari from neighboring Congo-Brazzaville. Postolo improved his undefeated record to 12-0 (7), while Moutuari fell to 9-7-1 (2).

Postolo had difficulties catching his elusive and stylish opponent, but in the sixth round he finally caught up with Moutuari and scored a knockdown. While Moutuari got up and made it through the round, he was in no condition to come out for the seventh round and retired on his stool. Promoter Mukadi Manda expressed an interest in making a sequel to this fight, even though Postolo is setting his sights on a world title bout.

The show, celebrating the 36th anniversary of the 1974 Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman fight, went ahead under the patronage of the governor of Katanga, his Excellency Moise Katumbi.  The honorable Katumbi, also president of football club T.P. Mazembe who plays in the final of the Cup of Africa Sunday (10.31), was represented by sports minister, his Excellency Felix Kabange.

Also on the show, UBO International Welterweight champion Ilunga Dominique, now 9-0-1 (1), defended his title with a hard-fought majority decision over Ali Kulibali (8-6, 2 KOs) from Mali. A back and forth battle eventually went the reigning champions way, when two judges had him a narrow winner while the third judge scored the bout a draw.

The event began with a beauty pageant where local girls competed for the title of “Queens Beauty Elegance”, followed by an undercard of professional fights with up-and-coming boxers. A generator was needed when electricity went out, but eventually everything continued with great success.

UBO Supervisor was president of the D.R.C. Boxing Commission Mr. Claude Kaninda. The event was sponsored by Turbo-King, Beer of real men and champions, and Bralima. The boxers purses and expenses connected to the UBO title fights will be settled by the government of Katanga via honorable governor Moise Katumbi, whose province is the pride of all of D.R.C. with T.P. Mazembe football club.

The Universal Boxing Organization™ wishes T.P. Mazembe good luck in their final this Sunday!
