| Former world title-challenger Humberto Toledo of Ecuador will fight Dominican puncher Luis Ernesto Jose for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Inter-Continental Lightweight title on September 18 in Salinas, Ecuador. Toledo, 37-6-2, (23), fought American Stevie Johnston for the IBA world title in 2007, losing on points in Colorado, USA. Other notables on his ledger are current WBC world champion Humberto Soto (L TKO3) and Amir Khan-conqueror Breidis Prescot (L DQ 10). Nicknamed “Bam Baby”, Toledo turned pro at 19 in 1998 and had a mediocre 2-2-2 start to his career before he emerged as a real prospect and won 27 straight bouts prior to squaring off with Soto and Johnston. He won WBA and WBC regional titles in 2006, and a WBC belt again in 2009 which he successfully defended as late as this past May. |
