| Hungarian veteran Laszlo Hubert won the vacant UBO European Cruiserweight title on Wednesday September 1, when he beat countryman Zoltan Somlosi in convincing fashion at the City Hall in Sturovo, Slovakia. After one minute and ten seconds of the second round referee Tibor Roman stopped the bout in favor of Hubert, awarding the 35-year old a technical knockout victory over his fourteen years younger opponent. With the victory, Hubert, who is also the reigning World Boxing Federation International Heavyweight champion, improved his record to 28-6 (18), and Somlosi lost for the second time as a professional, falling to 6-2, 2 KOs. A former WBC Youth World title, IBO Inter-Continental and WBC International challenger, Hubert has only lost to some of the very best in Europe. His six defeats came against five opponents with a combined record of 90-0 plus former world champion Silvio Branco, so the new UBO Champion has been in with absolute top-class competition. |
