In a sizzling atmosphere, hot
undefeated German Cruiserweight
prospect Hizni Altunkaya (10-0,
4 KOs) won the Universal Boxing
Organization™
Youth Cruiserweight
title in front of an
enthusiastic sell-out crowd of
1500 at the Icehouse in hometown
Neuwied, on Saturday May 8.
After a series of pull-outs,
promoter, and older brother of
the new champion, Turhan
Altunkaya secured Jonathan Pasi
(24) from Cologne as
co-challenger, and while the
late substitute entered the ring
as the underdog, he was full of
confidence, having defeated
another undefeated prospect,
Juergen Frank, less than two
months earlier.

Pasi was very successful and
aggressive in the beginning of
the bout, and gave Altunkaya all
he could handle in the first two
rounds. In round three, the
22-year-old local favourite
started to get more into it, and
looked stronger and stronger as
the fight progressed. To the
delight of his many fans he
managed to avoid the attacks of
Pasi and counter effectively
with both hands.
Round four was similar to the
previous stanza, with Pasi
taking many punches, and when
the fifth was all Altunkaya and
Pasi seemed spent, the end came
at the beginning of round six as
Pasi´s corner decided to retire
their fighter on the stool.
After only
nineteen months in the
professional ranks, this was
Altunkaya´s second championship.
This past January he won the GBC
Youth title, and it will be
interesting to follow his
progress in the coming years.
