Scott was originally scheduled to take on Joey
Dunmoodie, but when the Fort Worth-fighter pulled
out at late notice Scott was matched with another
Texan in the tough-as-nails Larry Smith from
Dallas.
Despite the late change, both fighters put on a
good fight for the capacity crowd in attendance,
but Scott was clearly the shaper and more skilled
boxer.
Smith made a valiant effort, and never looked in
serious trouble, but in the end the three judges
(Kenny Saintes, Keith Thibodeaux & Russell Naquin)
scored it unanimously and deservedly in favor of
Scott.
With the victory Travis Scott won his careers
first professional title and improved his record
to 15-0 (3). Larry Smith, who deserves a lot of
credit for filling in and saving the main event,
drops to 10-16-1 (7).
UBO World Lightweight Champion Mason Menard was
supposed to headline the show in a title defense,
but when challenger David Torres suffered an
injury in training Menard fought an eight-round
non title fight instead. |
