It was supposed to be a UBO championship tripleheader at the Emperor Garden in Budapest, Hungary Saturday night (May 25), but when Laszlo Fazekas was in need of an opponent, and Istvan Kiss had trouble boiling down to Super Lightweight, it was reduced to a doubleheader with Fazekas and Kiss fighting each other for the vacant Youth World Welterweight crown.

Fazekas and Kiss put on a very entertaining encounter, with Kiss starting the fight best and looking like the better man in the first three rounds. Then it was Fazekas time to take over, as Kiss seemed tired and Fazekas clearly won the fourth round.

In round five, it was again Fazekas in the driver’s seat when the pair accidentally clashed heads. Fazekas sustained a nasty cut from the impact, and was unable to continue, so according to UBO rules and regulations the fight went to the scorecards.

Judge Miklos Dory had Fazekas ahead by 48-47, but Bulcsu Gabris and Tamas Sasvari both had Kiss up with the same score, resulting in a split technical decision victory for Istvan Kiss, who improved his professional record to 12-8 (7). Fazekas drops to 15-8-1 (11).

In the co-feature, local man Roland Mohacsi faced Romanian Oszkar Fiko for the vacant Youth World Lightweight title. This match-up also turned out to be a real cracker, as both men fought with their hearts on their sleeves.

Kiss Beats Fazekas, Mohacsi Edges Fiko

Fiko was the busier man in the ring, but Mohacsi scored with the cleaner punching as they went at each other for ten magnificent rounds.

While the victory could have gone either way, judges Bulcsu Gabris and Tamas Sasvari scored in favor of Mohacsi (98-93 and 97-94), overruling Miklos Dory’s 96-95 vote for Fiko.

Roland Mohacsi took his professional ledger to 9-3 (4), and Fiko falls to 4-3 (2).

The show was promoted by Toto Box-Promotion.
