However, in front of a partisan crowd, Muango got
off to a good start and went on the offensive
undaunted by the spectator’s massive support of
his opponent. Kayumba got more into the fight in
the second round, established his jab to keep his
adversary at bay, and countered with precise right
hands.
Kayumba hurt Muango with a right in round four,
but didn’t manage to follow up to score a
knockdown and Muango made it to the bell on shaky
legs. While the fight had been relatively even up
to that point, it now seemed as if the end was
near and that the local hero just needed to land a
few more hard punches to get the victory.
The knockdown came in round five when Kayumba
trapped Muango in a corner and blasted away at
body and head, and ended matters with a
beautifully timed right hand right to the jaw of
Muango who went down for the full count of ten.
The new All-Africa Champion improved his
professional record to 6-1 (2), while Muangu’s
win-loss-draw statistics dropped to 8-4-1 (0).
Promoter was Manda Mukadi, UBO Supervisor at
ringside was Claude Kaninda.
