This was confirmed by UBO Oceania Commissioner Reginald Leca today, and will be officially announced on a press conference in Port Vila in early January. A major sporting hero in Vanuatu, Jacobus is expected to draw another sell-out crowd on February 19. If successful, plans are that “The Malekula Kid”, nicknamed after his beloved hometown, will defend again in July and December 2011.
Jacobus, 14-3 (10), won the World title in October 2009 by stopping Thailand’s Plaisakda Singwancha in two rounds, and defended it this past May when he scored a unanimous decision over another Thai, Komgrit Nanakorn. For his second defense the promoters are negotiating with a South American opponent and hope to have the name confirmed for the January press conference.
