Since turning professional in 2009, current Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-Africa Bantamweight ruler Gabriel Ochieng from Kenya has established himself as a tough-to-beat veteran.

The 35-year-old from Nairobi challenged for the UBO Inter-Continental title already in his fifth paid bout, losing a tough and close fight on points to former IBO World Champion Mbwana Matumla (19-6 at the time).

He lost his next three after that as well, all on points, and looked destined for journeyman status before rebounding to win the Kenyan national Super Flyweight crown in May of 2013.

Between 2013 and 2022 he has only lost three fights, one of which was against Ghanaian hero Joseph Agbeko (36-5), and in May of 2018 Ochieng won the UBO International Bantamweight title when he stopped Ramadhani Kumbele (21-13-4) in two rounds.

Ochieng, a southpaw, is now 21-8-1, and with sixteen of his victories coming inside the distance he carries significant power in both hands.

He showed that power when he won the UBO All-Africa title last March, stopping Tanzanian Mbarouk Selemani in a one-round shoot-out at Nairobi´s Charter Hall.

Always entertaining, Kenyan boxing fans are surely hoping that Ochieng will return soon to defend his UBO title.
