In the main event of a show at the Palasantoro in Rome, Italy on Sunday, March 27, Giovanni Carpentieri captured the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Light Heavyweight title.

El Mamba” defeated fellow countryman Francesco Castellano, enjoying the support of a good crowd on his way to a unanimous decision and his first title in the paid code.

The first half of the fight saw Carpentieri coming forward most of the time, especially having success with his left hook, while Castellano boxed on the back-foot, being busier but often only hitting the guards of Carpentieri.

During the last four rounds Castellano managed to also force Carpentieri backwards at times, but Carpentieri still couldn't miss with the left hook and landed by far the more telling shots.

After an entertaining encounter with many close rounds, judges Roberto Scali and Massimiliano Bianco both scored the fight 79-73, and judge Fabio Angileri scored it 80-72 in favour of the home-town favourite.

This was the fifth straight victory for 32-year-old Carpentieri, who improved his pro record to 13-4-3 (3). Castellano (36) drops to 6-4-1 (0) after winning five of his previous six.

For Carpentieri winning the UBO title is so far the culmination of an impressive resurrection of his career, going 12-1-2 since starting his career winless in his first four bouts.

Billed as “Back To Business”, the fight was promoted by MG Boxing.
