Halima Vunjabei is still the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Female International Junior Flyweight Champion, after defending the title on Sunday (December 16) at Musoma Bar in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Vunjabei, who won the title last March and since challenged for the World Boxing Federation World title in France, losing on points to Anne Sophie Da Costa, took on game but out-gunned compatriot Mwajuma Pengo.

Pengo was floored in the first round, but beat the count and managed to stay in the fight until referee Anthony Ruta had seen enough in round seven, waving the bout off and declaring Vunjabei the winner by technical knockout. Time of stoppage 0:11.

Only twenty-five years old, Vunjabei improved her professional record to 7-4-1 (4), and is on the hunt for a second shot at a world championship.

Pengo, challenging for her first title, is now 2-1-1 (1) and has potential to come back strong.

The fight was the main event of a show promoted by Kigula Sports Ent.
