November 20, 2009 / BY UBO PRESS OFFICER

Former IBO world champion Mbwana Matumla of Tanzania will collide with Ugandan Festus Omondi in a fight for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization Intercontinental bantamweight title on December 19 at PTA Hall in Dar Es Salaam.

The fight will be promoted by Prime Time Promotions, and is a co-feature to the UBO Intercontinental middleweight title fight between Francis Cheka and Enrico Areco.

Matumla is the more experienced of the two, and boasts an impressive record of 18 wins (10 by knockout) and only 4 losses. He is also a former WBA Intercontinental champion, and won the IBO world title in 2006 by beating Eric Barcelona of the Philippines. Omondi is 8-1 (6) and will be looking to clinch his professional careers first title.

Nicknamed “The African Golden Boy”, Matumla must be considered the favourite on home soil, but it promises to be an interesting clash between an experienced campaigner and a young lion out to make a name for himself.
