Canadian Ali Nestor Charles won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ World Super Welterweight title on Saturday night at the Claude-Robillard Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with an eight round knockout of Mexican Martin Avila.

The fight turned out to be a messy affair, with both boxers prone to clinching. In the eighth round the bout ended in a bizarre manner when Avila broke from such clinch without keeping his hands up.

Charles seized the moment and caught Avila with a quick right hand followed by a left uppercut, sending his opponent hard to the canvas.

Avila tried to beat the count, but the referee reached ten before he managed to pull himself upright, and the official ending came at 3:00 of round eight.

With the victory Charles improved his deceiving record to 13-5-2 (5), and Avila fell to 13-9 (6).

New UBO World Super Welterweight Champion Ali Nestor Charles

The fight was promoted by UGC Promotions, headed by the new World Champion himself. UBO Supervisor at ringside was Richard Blouin.
