It was the first defense of the title for Menard,
who improved his professional record to 15-1 (12).
Official scores of the three judges at ringside
were 100-89, 100-89 and 99-90.
A sold out crowd at the Hilton Towers in
Lafayette, Louisiana saw Menard put on a
dominating performance, and even manage to score a
knockdown of Napunyi (14-9, 7 KOs) along the way,
but the puncher from near-by Rayne was not happy
that he failed to win inside the distance, saying:
“It was not what I was hoping for, and the
performance I had trained for, but I did manage to
drop him and I got the job done.”
Having also won the Louisiana State title last
year, this was Menard´s third championship fight
over all, but the first time he was forced to go
past seven rounds.
Getting ten hard rounds under his belt could prove
important for the 22-year-old who is hoping for a
shot at the UBO World title later this year.
