Italian Tiziano Barilotti won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Mediterranean Middleweight title on Friday night, October 18, at the Palatiziano in Rome.

On a card promoted by De Carolis Promotions, headed by former WBA world champion Giovanni De Carolis, broadcast live by RaiSportSat1, Barilotti beat the very capable Zdenko Bule from Croatia by unanimous decision.

It was a competitive fight, with close rounds and both men looking determined. Barilotti often applied the pressure, while Bule tried to control him with his jab and counters, but at times it was also the other way around.

In the end the judges had it wide for Barilotti (79-73, 79-73 and 80-72), but, while the scores suggest otherwise, it was always interesting with several rounds hard to decide.

After a rough period where things have often not gone his way in the ring, 36-year-old Barilotti finally achieved his dream of becoming a champion, as he improves his record to 9-3-2 (5).

Bule, still only twenty-two years old, drops to a very misleading 10-14 (2). He had won his last three coming into the fight, and six of his last seven, and is sure to do well in the future.
