Cecilia Comunales of Uruguay is the new Universal Boxing Organization™ Female World Lightweight Champion after stopping Halana Dos Santos of Brazil on Sunday January 9 at the Hotel & Casino Conrad in Punte Del Este, Uruguay.

The fight was promoted by Sergio Marquez Promociones in cooperation with Sampson Lewkowicz, and televised by TyC Sports.

22-year-old Comunales came out for the first round determined, but her opponent, one year younger at 21, also had her moments and put on a very good performance. Dos Santos, a former two-time WBA World title-challenger, was game and unfazed by fighting in Comunales’ country, but at the end of the day it was not enough to win.

The first five rounds were fought on even terms, with Comunales mostly the aggressor and Dos Santos counter-punching, both having their share of success.

But in round six “El Reina” (The Queen), as Comunales is nicknamed, put on the pressure and took control. She connected with a beautiful right uppercut and quickly followed with a right hook, knocking Dos Santos Down.

That was the end of it, as a visibly hurt Dos Santos failed to beat the count of referee Anibal Andrade who officially ended the fight at 1:20 of round six. Comunales improved her professional record to 7-1 (5), and Dos Santos fell to 13-4 (8).
