Former Italian champion Catalin Ionescu added the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Super Featherweight title to his resume on Saturday night, July 20.

Outdoors at the Stadio Di Lastra a Signa in his home-town Lastra a Signa, the Romanian-born 27-year-old defeated Colombian co-challenger Diego Lagos in impressive fashion for the vacant belt.

Lagos, who´s only two previous defeats had come via injury against undefeated Salvador Jimenez and by decision to former European champion Faroukh Kourbanov, both on away soil, had come to fight, but the local man would not be denied.

Fired-up and sharp, Ionescu stunned Lagos in round three and followed up with a flurry, sending him down with a couple of vicious body-shots. Clearly unable to beat the count, the fight was waved off with Lagos in a heap on the canvas.

Ionescu, who only just came up short in a challenge for the European crown in May of 2023, is now 15-3-1 (6) since turning professional in 2017. Lagos (29) travels back to Bogota at 11-4 (5).

The fight was the main event of WASB XX, promoted by Boxe Lastra a Signa in association with Noble Art Boxing Promotions.
