Fast-tracked Brazilian Eduardo Gomes won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Continental (South America) Super Featherweight title on Saturday night, July 6.

With the legendary Acelino Freitas at ringside, and in the ring to congratulate him, Gomes defeated Bolivian Deyvis Rodriguez Flores at the Centro De Convecoes in his home-town of Teresina.

It was an excellent fight between two warriors, but Gomes did more work and landed the harder and cleaner punches in most of the rounds.

Rodriguez Flores, who has won several fights as the underdog in the past, had come to cause another upset and it was not for a lack of trying that he came unstuck.

After ten high-paced rounds, judges Julio Salomao, Leonildo De Souza and Edmar Reis all scored the fight 99-91 for Gomes, wide scores that doesn't do the effort of Rodriguez Flores justice.

The new champion, who was the first Brazilian champion from Piaui state, and now also the first UBO champion, takes his record to 4-0 (3). Rodriguez Flores drops to 4-3-1 (3).
