UBO - Universal Boxing Organization™

Italian Davide “Piombo” Carpentieri was impressive in winning the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Youth Lightweight title on Saturday night, May 25.

At the Palasantoro in Rome, the 22-year-old local favourite, fighting for his first professional title, stopped game but out-gunned co-challenger Hasan Sikdar (19) from Bangladesh in the fourth round.

Carpentieri controlled the action in the first two rounds by employing a sharp and accurate jab, and put together some nice combinations when he got on the inside, while Sikdar attempted to retaliate with hard shots in spurts.

In round three the pressure was clearly starting to get to the visitor, as Carpentieri upped the tempo and especially had success with powerful body-shots. Sikdar still tried to shift the momentum, but the Italian was very much in charge.

The end came when Carpentieri came out fast for round four and floored Sikdar three times with hard, well-placed shots to the body. Sikdar beat the count twice, but after going down a third time referee Gaetano Valentino waved it off.

Headlining a show promoted by Sparta Pugilato, it was a conclusive and promising performance from Carpentieri, who improved his professional record to 5-1-3 (5).

Sikdar, who challenged for the UBO Inter-Continental Featherweight title last year, falls to 7-5-2 (4) after trying his best to compete but found himself overpowered.
